Sunil Gangopadhyay

Sunil Gangopadhyay or Sunil Ganguly was an Indian poet, historian and novelist in the Bengali language based in the city of Kolkata. He is a former Sheriff of Calcutta. Gangopadhyay obtained his master's degree in Bengali from the University of Calcutta. A renowned Bengali writer or author who emerged in the last half of the twentieth century. He was born on 7 September 1934 in Faridpur, Bengal Presidency, British India (now Bangladesh). In the four decades leading up to his death on 23 October 2012, he was widely known as one of the foremost figures in Bengali literature among the global Bengali-speaking population.
